Thank you for your lovely comment on my painting, Sydney's Rose.  I hope you do try the Flemish technique.  I am always pleased with the outcome and think the little extra effort is so worth the time spent.  If you have any questions I will be happy to help you with it to get you through the first one.  After that, the rest are very easy. Hugs, Roena

Thanks for the attention you dedicate to my paintings.

The box “Geometrie” is taken from the camera of little drone photo. The line that divides the landscape is a small river and his shape was the first thing that affect me (do you remember the “visual concept” Richard often talk about?).

In addiction, the picture plays a precise place in the village where I live: so there is no need to change the course of the river.

Probably the composition would gain something, but at the moment I like it this way!

Special thanks Ann, and happy painting!   Mariangela Margoni

Thank you again Ann for giving me advice on my painting of Vernazza Boat Dock. I have taken you advice and adjusted the painting with more color in the village. I hope I have made it more appealing. I love that you looked and commented on the painting. I think the photo came out better with the colors because we finally got some sun here in Ohio which made the camera work better.

Thank you Ann for commenting on my painting Vernazza Boats. I thought the painting needed darker buildings also, but after reading Richards comment about another painting that making the village stand out that it was competing with the boats for view. That was it about the village or about the boats. I agree with you I would like to have richer buildings. As I get stronger with the lessons I hope to be more aggressive.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on my WIP rose painting in the Flemish method (the umber layer).  I appreciate it.  The lines you see are the graphite pencil drawing I do directly on the canvas, then spray with a graphite/pastel fixative so it will not smear.  The normal Flemish method says to trace the drawing in Indian Ink, but since I do so many very detailed paintings I am concerned that if I should draw on paper and try to transfer the drawing, I would lose the details.  So I draw on the canvas in graphite.  The lines will eventually be covered up with the gray and color layers.

There are so many different types of compositions.  I recommend the book (it was recommended to me as the "best" by a professional landscape artist).  Edgar Payne, "Composition of Outdoor Painting".  Once you understand the different types of compositions, then you just use what looks like it would apply to the scene you have in front of you.  http://www.amazon.com/Composition-Outdoor-Painting-Edgar-Payne/dp/0939370115/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1421456846&sr=8-1&keywords=composition+of+outdoor+painting+by+edgar+payne&pebp=1421456852774&peasin=939370115

Thanks Ann, and maybe I'll get down to your area some day and we can go paint together.  It's been too many years since I've gone to visit friends in Santa Cruz and San Jose.  I'm due for a trip!
