I like the atmosphere in this piece. Is very cheerful. Implementing all the advice from Michael will give anther dimension to your painting.
Thanks Michael for your time and wisdom to help us. Sarah , your painting is very romantic, I am eager to see the changes you are going to make. Good luck, lucky Sarah.
Oh, BTW ...do not go half and half with the umbrella ...1/4 light ...3/4 half tone ...(the tone you have now).
Hi Sarah. your yellow umbrella is the correct tone in shadow, so when you punch a highlight on the left side of the umbrella, it will pop!!! Okay, the sky. We are looking more or less INTO THE SUN ..therefore ..the sky should be quite bright and warm ...you can use a prismatic approach ...white, yellow, red, and blue ...with the yellow +white predominating. ...use a lot of white Then punch that yellow/white in a heavy impasto stroke on the street coming toward you ..if it is too intense, then kind of nudge some of your gray street color into its edges. When you put the rim light (highlights) on the figures and umbrella ..your painting will sparkle!!! I like your background information ...don't mess with that. :))
