Oil on canvas panel, plein air, 9" by 12". Painted yesterday with my Saturday painting group at China Camp State Park. Lots of beautiful clouds with some thundercaps and even a little lightening, but almost no rain later in the afternoon and no rain from a promised storm last night. Need the rain!!!

Lol, Stu. you make me laughing. I always thought that you were very serious. Today I see your humor. What a wondful way to start a day, thank you, Stuart.   I study your beautiful painting again, those twin bushes is ok to me as they are different shapes and the colour are greyish. But , if I were you, I may make the size and the shapes of the rocks at the left side of painting more different by connect them together or whatever, you know. by the way, I love the value of those rocks, they made an excellent value contrast. No big deal, the whole painting is gorgeous.

Thanks Lori and Colleen. Lori, the bushes are deliberately vague and without much value or color contrast. They are just supposed to break up the shoreline. My focal area is the point in the mid ground.. I try to keep my foreground as abstract and vague as possible so that it doesn't catch the eye and actually your eye is supposed to follow my "S" shaped area of light out in the water to the point and then beyond there to the distant shore and up into the sky. Lori, I guess my little bushes were not abstract enough or maybe you can't swim and were afraid to venture out onto the water and were busily looking for something to hang onto on the shoreline? Kidding of course! Thanks for looking over my painting!!!! Stu

Beautifully painted again Stu! I love the colours in the big tree on the right - in fact all of the trees, and also the colours in the water.

Well done Stu!! It's great to see what you've been up to..lots of terrific paintings!! This is my favorite of the new lot. I like the gnarly tree..very expressive brushwork with great sky holes! I can never manage them. The colors are very harmonious & the composition is terrific. I'm wondering about the twin bushes in a he foreground..perhaps you might vary them a bit and add some darker value to them?

I really like this painting, but also like the simplicity of Gallinas Cove, and thanks for the tip about painting facing the sun!

This is my favourite of the paintings you've posted now, Stu - the composition is so good & the light is beautiful!  The trees & grasses are wonderful!

Sorry you missed it; we never got any real rain, just a few drops.   Next Saturday is supposed to be clear and the place we are painting is great!!
