12" by 16" oil on linen panel. This is a little neighborhood market that I drive past daily. It's colorful signs on a sunny day always catch my eye.

All simple and beautiful!

Thanks, Michael.   Too bad, but I don't think the folks who run these little chain stores buy paintings.   However, I have a lot of MD friends who work at the hospital and live in Marin and drive the same route, so maybe some interest there.   I really concentrated on making that storefront pop and subduing everything else.   Too bad that due to the high crime in the area that now, less than a year later after I took this photo, all the ground floor windows have bars over them--still bright yellow but really boring.   These really are my favorites to paint, but I have to be in the right mood to get in all that detail--wine would not work for this, but coffee helps and some nice guitar music (classical guitar and flamenco are two of my favorites while painting in my little studio).  Attached is a picture of my little studio right after I built it.   I just got a second monitor (23' diagonal) for the computer on the desk and it is mounted right beside my easel at eye level; it is really cool for painting from digital photos.    Stu

I laughed before your reply when you mentioned the steady hand....Think how thrilled your patients are. You should show them your paintings before all surgeries! :) Could be an extra perk for going under the knife.

Thanks Linda.  I do have a very steady hand; I am a general surgeon and still practicing with no shaking.   As to the perspective; when I paint from photos, I draw layout perspective lines to find the vanishing point(s) on a squared off black and white print and then square off my canvas and lay in the lines with a pastel pencil before starting my sketch.   For plein air buildings, I will hold up a brush and transfer the angle and draw in my layout lines before the sketch.   It works much better for me that way.   Stu

Stu, This is great.  Your perspective is very well done. The electric lines, the windows of the buildings, the bright colored market, and all the printing adds to the charm.  You have a steady hand!
