Hello,
My name is Felicity Deverell. I'm an artist from Northland, New Zealand. I found this website recently and thought I'd join in on the fun! It would be great to meet other artists from New Zealand as I'm a bit of a loner up here and don't really know many artists about.
As well as being a pet portrait artist I'm currently working on a drawing project called The Art of a Hut.
That involves me doing lots of tramping in the ranges all around the country and drawing DOC huts and making a collection of drawings for an exhibition. I've just completed three weeks of tramping and it's so much fun, drawing, being outside, and exploring my country all at the same time!

Thank you for the welcome, I think I will enjoy it. :)
Hi Felicity,
I am originaly from Whangarei, have just joined this site and are keen to learn to paint. Huts!!!! I have an interest in huts too, having built quite a few over the years. The Tangihuia (Northland) hut being the first. Photography has been my main hobbie, here is a link to my Flckr page.http://www.flickr.com/photos/gobush/ I have put most of my hut photos on there, you will have to look for them a bit but they are mainly in two bunches. Look forward to seeing some of your art work.
Paul
Hi Paul,
That's awesome! I'm planning to draw Tangihuia hut sometime soon. Did you belong to the Whangeri Tramping Club?
Love your photos, especially the landscapes and the latest few of old buildings. I'm beginning to work on a series of paintings of old buildings- woolsheds, barns, farm cottages etc. so they really interest me. Do you know of any old buildings that would be good to paint in the Northland area?
Good luck with your painting, hope you enjoy this site. I've just joined also and am loving it.
Hi Felicity,
Yes, I did find my feet with the tramping club, spent many weekends exploring the north. Glad you like my pics, the old buildings taken last week are from the Molesworth Station. The road is open at the moment and the old wool shed at St James station was just amazing, spent two hrs there with the camera! Dont know of any current good subject matter in the north for you. I guess its really a matter of driving some of those dusty back roads and seeing whats around the corner :-)

That's awesome. I hope to visit the South Island stations sometime.
Yes, that is what I had planned to do. Just explore around the place and find beautiful old buildings to paint.
Happy painting,
Felicity
