I've decided to try this painting in two styles - this first is more "expressive" using direct painting - I started another in the Flemish style - indirect method. I'm thinking of posting that as a blog so I don't take up photo space. This is 11x14 on canvas board, using a limited palette of UB, AC, Primary yellow, BU, white & black.

Nicely done Lori!! Beautiful composition!
Many thanks for the kind words Ann & Laura! Michael I took a photo and can work from that.Another lesson learned -- choose non-perishables for paintings beyond all prima!!
It is super beautiful painting, Lori!
Hi Lori, I feel your pain. I have seen artists that use skewers taped to the vase in the back and then clear tape the flower in place, ignore the tape and props when painting. If you like it, then its great and you should enjoy it. Your painting technique with lacy cloth and pumpkins is wonderful.
Just curious, if you dismantled everything, how are you going to finish the "Flemish Method" painting you started?
Turn the vase around and see what happens. For sure, I know what you mean by the fun part! BTW, I will literally spend days on the setup ...trying this, trying that ....after painting, I always see something that I could have done better ..sigh.
Thanks Robert & Michael! Michael, Ann did mention the issue with the flowers as they are arranged...the darn things were giving me fits!! I originally thought the light was hitting the first (left) flower most and that would make it dominant -- then as I painted I saw it differently. I kind of hoped the light was the star..I can try desaturating the middle flower more but as I type I think that wouldn't make sense since the light is cast on the flowers to it's right. Sigh - should have spent more time in the set up! Live and learn. I did have fun painting this and am not unhappy with it in spite of the cast of characters!:)
Lori, you have painted it very well ..but I am not to sure about the sameness of the sunflowers. Also, their placement creates an equalateral triangle. Who is the star of this show? ...everyone is crying out for attention.
