Seems like just about every time someone pops in from overseas to paint with me I end up taking them out to this spot. And why not? It's close, beautiful and has a nice cafe. Returning to the same spot gives you the chance to try…

I switched to oils mostly because of the color shift with acrylics. There are some things I like about acrylics like they dry fast and are easier to transport.Especially large paintings. Also,my experience with acrylics is the acrylic polymer is somewhat milky in color when wet but dries very clear and not yellowing. This means it's like looking at the pigments in clear glass rather than the slightly amber with oils. I like the slow drying of oils for and you can easily make complete…

This is a still life of a tomato. I guess you have already figured this out. I like this but I'm going to try to add pouring water drops on it. I will photo the work in process. I'm always striving to get better and try new techniques. I hope you enjoy it, and if anyone would like to offer suggestions I will appreciate it.…

1.There is no substitute for miles on the brush.
You can only learn to paint by painting. Nothing teaches like experience.
You can learn about painting by listening to others, reading books and magazines, and by watching teaching dvds and videos, but it is only in the act of painting that you learn to paint. So paint...and then paint some more.
2.Give yourself permission to succeed.
And while you’re at it,…

After painting in oils for the past month, nice to get back to my pastels. I think the lessons here in oils are helping my pastels. I did an oil wash on sanded paper then applied pastel over the top of that. What fun!

I am about to undertake a large painting in oil. It is 4 ft by 2 ft horizontal. I want to paint Mount Rainier in Washington. The mountain is off to the right, not taking up the whole painting. Any suggestions how to go about this? I have printed out some photos and taped them together so far.

I have been reading both book and web material about Art Marketing. There seems two be two threads, to become Galleried or to sell on the web. Is it not possible to do both?

This is how I teach the 1/3rd composition. Once it is understood the students will go right to the spot they want without drawing a bunch of lines on their canvas. They say “A” is the prime spot with b ,c and “D” are the lesser…

I got home from a busy day at the office to find a cheque in the mail for the sale of "Me and My Family". This is exciting news for me as I've only been painting for 2 years and this is the 3rd painting I've sold. It is a great boost of encouragement for me to keep going. Challenging myself with workshops like the pear/grape challenge and continuing to work on the basics and not try to rush the learning is starting to work for me. I'll now be tackling Workshop 6 challenge tomorrow with…

Today is my husbands birthday, so today is a little less about art and more about trying to make a great day for him. I've been cleaning the house, shoping for a birthday present/card/flowers and I intend to cook him a great dinner! Tomarrow, it's back to work!

Its really hard to get into painting when you haven't painted for a while. I think sometimes we underestimate the value of community as artists - as many of us are solitary types. Online we can encourage and stimulate each other - iron sharpens iron!
